Electric tricycles with color codes will drive around the market area, taking people to camps and bathing places. These electric tricycles will have different color codes for driving in specific routes/directions within the bazaar area.
The Mahakum Great Religious Expo 2025 will not only be grand and sacred, but the 12-yearly event will also be eco-friendly. As part of the effort, pilgrims heading to Sangam for bathing, especially the disabled and the elderly, will be driven around the sprawling tent city in specially assigned electric rickshahs, shuttling them to and from different bathing sites, including the revered Sangam, officials said.
The electric tricycle will operate within 4,000 hectares of this sprawling tent city.
The Prayagraj Mela Administration has drawn up an outline based on past experience. Large vehicles (such as buses and trucks) of pilgrims coming from afar will not be allowed to enter the bazaar area. Instead, they will be parked in designated parking lots set up outside the city limits. Vijay Kiran Anand, chief executive officer of Mahakumbh Mela Adhikari and Prayagraj Mela Authority, said electric shuttles would transport pilgrims in batches to Sangam every 10 to 20 minutes.
After that, electric tricycles with color codes will run in the bazaar area, taking them to camps and bathing grounds. He explained that the electric tricycles would have different colour codes for specific routes/directions within the bazaar area.
At present, the color code of these electric tricycles is being prepared. The plan is to have electric tricycles of certain colors drive on designated routes. For example, if the electric tricycle going to Sangam is saffron colored, then the electric tricycle going to Akhalamag will be red, white, blue or any other color. This will enable pilgrims to recognize electric tricycles to their destinations from a distance. The official said the color codes would be widely publicized.
In addition, a number of charging stations will be set up for electric tricycle operators at different places within the exhibition area.
Only during the bathing festival do pilgrims have to travel on foot
Only before and a few days after the main bathing festival is traffic restricted due to the influx of tourists. Only then do pilgrims have to walk 3 kilometers to reach the bathing area.
Except during the bathing festival, electric rickshaws will operate in the exhibition area during the 45-day exhibition period.
In 2025, the fair will kick off with the Paush Purnima Bathing Festival on January 13, 2025, This is followed by the “Makar Sankranti” Shahi Snan on January 14 and the Mauni Amavasya Bathing Festival on January 29. The “Basant Panchami” bathing festival will be the third and final Shahi Snan of the fair and will be held on February 3, 2025. After the Achla Saptami (February 4) and Maghi Purnima (February 12) bathing festivals, the fair will conclude on February 26 at Mahashivratri snan.
